Samantha Pawar: Characteristics of BC Children and Youth at High-Risk for Self-Harm Poisoning
Poisoning is a significant public health concern in BC. While efforts to resolve the opioid crisis are imperative, our exploration of poisoning-related data in BC has highlighted devastating rates of self-harm poisoning among children and youth. Such events are far too common, yet these preventable injuries garner relatively little attention. This study has evaluated child and youth self-harm poisoning epidemiological trends in BC, as well as self-harm poisoning rates by neighbourhood socioeconomic status. A geospatial analysis was conducted to determine child and youth self-harm poisoning rates by region within BC, and these rates were compared to accessibility of local mental health services.
