Communicating “airborne” transmission risk for COVID-19 and the role of ventilation in risk mitigation: Angela Eykelbosh
Angela Eykelbosh, Sarah Henderson
COVID-19 has posed numerous challenges to public health, including how we communicate amongst ourselves and with the public regarding transmission. The notion of “airborne” transmission is particularly fraught, as the more mechanistic discussion of aerosol generation and dispersal is often divorced from what is observed from epidemiological studies and the experiences of healthcare workers. Since March, the NCCEH has reviewed and critique the evidence for “airborne” transmission
in order to understand the value/limitations of ventilation in risk mitigation, suggest reasonable ventilation measures for workplaces, and encourage dialogue on how to better contextualize this risk for the public.
