Spatio-temporal approach to enhancing public health intelligence for mortality surveillance Vanessa Xiu
Monitoring mortality trends across space and time is vital for developing an equity-focused public health surveillance system. We applied a Bayesian hierarchical model to monthly mortality data in British Columbia from January 2020 to December 2024, accounting for geographic heterogeneity across Local Health Areas and population trend. Our work greatly enhances the spatial resolution of the current mortality surveillance systems and can foresee future mortality risks and address spatial inequalities with greater granularity and scientific rigor.
