From Insight to Impact Celebrating a decade of the BC Hepatitis Testers Cohort and what comes next

Presenter bios Dr. Naveed Janjua (MBBS, MSc DrPH) is the Director of the University of British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (UBCCDC) at the Faculty of Medicine, a Clinical Professor at the School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia, and the Executive Director of Epidemiology & Intelligence Services at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). His research focuses on infectious diseases—including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and COVID-19—health disparities, health outcomes, and the effectiveness of prevention and treatment interventions to generate real-world evidence. Dr. Janjua uses large, real-world data cohorts, such as the BC Hepatitis Testers Cohort and the BC COVID-19 Cohort, to conduct high-impact research that has informed clinical practice and public health policies both nationally and internationally. Dr. Sofia Bartlett (PhD) is the interim scientific director for Clinical Prevention Services at BCCDC. She is also an assistant professor (partner) in the UBC School of Population and Public Health. Sofia provides scientific leadership of STIBBI and TB surveillance and programming at BCCDC, and conducts applied public health research to address related knowledge gaps. Dr. Bartlett is a co-investigator with the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network and the Canadian Network on Hepatitis C, and co-leads the Transformative Health and Justice Research Cluster at UBC. Learning objectives: · Summarize the history, scope, and key research findings of the BC Hep Testers Cohort over the past decade · Describe how evidence from the cohort has influenced public health policy, clinical guidelines, and public health monitoring and surveillance practices at provincial, national, and international levels · Introduce the IDEALS Mart data platform and the OPTIMISE Project, highlighting opportunities for future research and public health impact
