Our Seafood WATCH in a changing climate

Summary: WATCH – We All Take Care of the Harvest – is an Indigenous led seafood and climate change project coordinated by the First Nations Health Authority. Partnering with BCCDC and many other agencies we are striving to enable seafood sovereignty for Pacific coastal communities reliant on seafoods. The project, initially focused on the threats of marine biotoxins and creating monitoring and climate adaptation plans, has evolved in many ways. Community of Practice discussions within Indigenous communities and with other experts have led the project in novel directions. Presenter: Holly Clermont is a social scientist, registered professional biologist, and lead of the We All Take Care of the Harvest seafood and climate change project at First Nations Health Authority. She is passionate about engagement, climate change adaptation, conservation, ecosystem resilience, Indigenous knowledge, history and de-colonization. Jordan Brubacher is an interdisciplinary scientist whose background spans ecology, earth systems and environmental health. He is privileged to be serving as the environmental health scientist in the WATCH Project to assist the community monitors with their data and mapping needs. Lorraine McIntyre is a food safety and environmental health scientist who has been working for BCCDC for over 30 years. She is pleased to be part of the BCCDC team assisting Indigenous communities in addressing seafood safety through WATCH and other projects.
